March 321 update February was a month full of energy, achievements, and strong community spirit at West Carroll! From our students excelling in academic and hands-on competitions to our staff working tirelessly to support them, I continue to be amazed by the dedication and passion in our district. Thank you all for making West Carroll a place where students can achieve their best. Let’s keep this momentum going as we head into the final months of the school year! 3-Exciting Highlights & Developments FFA Competition Success: Nine of our FFA members recently took part in a district Ag Mechanics Skills Competition. They tackled challenges in electrical wiring, plumbing, welding, differential leveling, stud construction, truss construction, and engine parts identification. Our group brought home two District Championships and three individual awards. A month ago, many of them had never done these tasks before! They’re excited to continue honing their skills for next year. Reading Celebration at West Carroll Elementary: On March 4, West Carroll Elementary honored top readers with a festive Mardi Gras luncheon. Students who read 80 books or earned 80 AR points (and passed their tests) were invited to this special event, with 33 students from grades 3-6 recognized. Impressively, 18 students have already reached the yearly goal of 100 books or 100 AR points! The event was led by librarian Pat Hudgins, who not only organized the celebration but also baked a traditional king cake and decorated tables in Mardi Gras colors. Students enjoyed hats, masks, beads, and slices of king cake with a hidden baby figurine inside! Photos of this event can be found on our website. Kindergarten Experience a Royal Adventure: West Carroll Primary’s kindergarteners stepped into a medieval world of castles, kings, and fairy tales! Under the guidance of Mrs. Malorie Jo Watkins, students learned about characters, settings, and plot through classic stories like King Midas, Cinderella, and Snow White. To wrap up their exciting unit, they donned crowns and robes for a royal feast! With goblets of juice in hand and smiles as bright as a knight’s shining armor, our young scholars celebrated the magic of storytelling and creativity. Photos of this event can be found on our website. 2-Inspiring Quotes “We have had a great time with the different readers that have come in and participated. The students have been thrilled to hear stories read aloud by familiar faces.” " - Jackie Wester, West Carroll Primary Principal “We’ve got testing coming up, and there’s a lot of pressure on our teachers with these TCAP tests. But we have a really amazing team and I’m so proud to be a part of it.” - Dr. Adam Douglas, WCHS Principal 1-Community Challenge This month, our staff is taking on a Walking Challenge! Every three miles walked or run, participants color a clover on their tracking sheet. The challenge runs through March 30, and I challenge our entire community to participate! Whether you’re a parent, student, local resident, or any stakeholder, challenge yourself to get moving and see how many miles you can walk by March 30th. Email me your total miles and we’ll calculate how far our community has walked all together! Let’s make this a district-wide movement for better health!
